What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring an Economic Assistance Benefits Specialist — Long Term Care to assess needs, make benefit determinations, and connect eligible older adults and people with disabilities to Medical Assistance and related services. This is a full-time (40 hrs/week) role focused on customer service, accurate eligibility decisions, and adherence to program rules.

  • Assess and analyze applicants’ current life circumstances and financial capabilities
  • Determine eligibility for Medical Assistance programs serving elderly and disabled individuals
  • Interview and counsel applicants and family members to gather necessary information
  • Identify and connect applicants with community resources and support services
  • Interpret and apply program rules, regulations, and policies to ensure correct benefits
  • Respond to public inquiries about benefits and services in a timely, professional manner
  • Prepare clear documentation, reports, and correspondence reflecting relevant facts
  • Use computerized data systems to record and track cases and decisions
  • Prioritize caseloads and meet schedules and deadlines with minimal supervision

Who We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is service-oriented, detail-focused, and able to apply rules and sound judgment to complex eligibility situations.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in social science, behavioral science, human services, business administration, public administration, education, public health, or a related field preferred — OR equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Preferred experience: health care administration, finance, accounting, or insurance (helpful but not required)
  • Entry-level candidates may qualify if they demonstrate required knowledge and aptitudes through training/experience
  • Strong communication, active listening, and documentation skills
  • Ability to gather and analyze data, reason logically, and solve problems resourcefully
  • Demonstrated compassion, tact, and respect when interacting with vulnerable populations
  • Comfortable using computerized data systems and learning new software
  • Proven ability to organize work to meet deadlines and adjust to multiple demands
  • Initiative and ability to work independently when necessary

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Basic mathematical calculation methods
  • Familiarity with social program principles and methods (preferred)
  • Awareness of social, cultural, economic, psychological, and emotional factors that affect families and individuals (preferred)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly pay: $24.77 per hour (depending on qualifications)
  • Employment type: Full-time (40 hours/week). Contractor classification may apply as described by the client.
  • Benefits (offered by the client): health insurance options (including a $0 premium option), dental, vision, retirement (Class A SDRS membership for this client), paid holidays, and vacation/sick accrual.
