What You’ll Do

This entry-level Traffic Engineer role supports transportation planning, design, and operations work under general supervision. As part of a project team you will contribute to analyses, field data collection, design support, and documentation that help deliver safe, efficient roadways and multimodal facilities.

  • Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing field and technical data (traffic counts, surveys, GIS, blueprints, maps).
  • Support capacity analyses, operations analysis, and traffic modeling tasks.
  • Help inspect and document existing site conditions, intersections, signage, signals, pavement markings, and related infrastructure.
  • Assist with basic signal system design and timing, monitoring and control tasks.
  • Provide technical support for traffic plan review, traffic complaint investigations, and design/concept development for roadways and intersections.
  • Perform traffic counts and prepare data summaries to inform design and operational recommendations.
  • Prepare clear, accurate technical documentation, field logs, and electronic deliverables.
  • Follow site- and project-specific safety procedures and record-keeping requirements.
  • Complete assigned training and take direction from senior engineers and project managers.
  • Uphold professional and ethical standards and follow Confidential Client’s policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as required by project needs.

Who You Are

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • 0–1 years of relevant post-education experience (entry-level).
  • Strong analytical and research skills with attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with roadway transportation codes, standards, and construction practices.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently with general supervision and as part of a project team.
  • Basic technical writing and proficiency with office software and spreadsheets.
  • Familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD and MicroStation (or willingness to learn).
  • Commitment to workplace safety and ability to follow health, safety, and drug/alcohol policies.
  • Flexibility to work project-driven schedules; occasional travel may be required.

Preferred qualifications

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or working toward EIT.
  • Relevant internship experience in traffic/transportation engineering.
  • Active participation in local professional organizations or student chapters.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation range (all locations): $60,600 — $90,900 per year.

Location & Work Conditions

  • Role location: Morristown, NJ (local travel to project sites may be required).
  • This is a full-time position. Work schedules may extend beyond a typical workweek depending on project needs.
