What You’ll Do

Confidential Client (via Careertakes) is seeking an Early Career Structural Engineer — Transportation to support building and infrastructure projects. In this entry-level role you will work under general supervision to assist with site analysis, design support, and documentation to ensure safe, code-compliant, and cost-effective structural solutions.

  • Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from work sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS, subsurface utility info, maps, and geotechnical reports.
  • Support basic structural engineering tasks: inspections, research, and evaluation of proposed and existing site conditions for conformance with codes and permits.
  • Provide entry-level technical assistance on design requirements and operational strategies that affect safety and functionality.
  • Help verify site characteristics and contribute to recommendations that ensure structural soundness under environmental and live loads.
  • Produce accurate documentation, drawings, and 2D/3D illustrations; maintain site notebooks and electronic records.
  • Follow safety guidelines and site-specific procedures, and complete assigned training.
  • Exercise ethical decision-making and adhere to company policies and professional standards.
  • Perform other duties as required to meet project needs.

Who You Are (Qualifications)

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 0–1 years of post-degree relevant experience (entry-level).
  • Strong research, analytical, and technical-writing skills.
  • Familiarity with design/build processes and relevant structural/civil construction codes and compliance.
  • Proficient interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Self-starter with attention to detail, ability to multi-task and prioritize in a dynamic environment.
  • Basic proficiency with office software, spreadsheets, and common engineering tools.
  • Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, GeoPak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STAAD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS).
  • Commitment to workplace safety and compliance with health, safety, and conduct policies.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules when project needs require; occasional travel may be required.

Preferred

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Prior internship experience related to the degree and discipline.
  • Active participation in local professional practice organizations.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Expected salary range: $63,800 — $81,000 per year (range provided in good faith; final compensation will depend on experience, skills, and location).
  • Benefits typically include medical, dental, vision, life and disability coverage; retirement savings; paid sick and vacation time; parental leave; and other paid time off as offered by the client.

  • Job location: Sycaway, NY (on-site as required by project needs).
  • Employment Type: Full-time / Contractor (per client’s engagement model).
