Role overview

Confidential Client (via Careertakes) is hiring an Early Career Software Engineer to join an IT team developing and maintaining software that supports national telecommunications, data analytics, and digital equity initiatives. This is a hybrid role based in Savage, MD and involves working closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to build secure, reliable, and scalable systems.

What You’ll Do

• Assist in the design, development, testing, and deployment of software solutions that support national telecommunications mission objectives.
• Work with senior engineers and product teams to translate requirements into technical tasks and deliverables.
• Learn and apply secure coding practices to help meet cybersecurity and compliance standards.
• Support maintenance activities, bug fixes, and performance improvements on existing applications.
• Contribute to documentation and team knowledge-sharing activities.
• Participate in code reviews and collaborate on development lifecycle best practices.

Minimum Qualifications

• LEVEL 1: Bachelor’s degree in a related field — 0 years professional experience (internship experience desirable).
• LEVEL 2: Bachelor’s degree with ~2 years relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 0 years professional experience.
• Foundational knowledge or coursework in one or more: Python, MATLAB, Rust, Unreal Engine, or Azure Cloud / Windows desktop environments.
• Basic understanding of APIs, RESTful services, and software architecture concepts.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active SECRET security clearance.
• Internship or project experience supporting telecommunications, data analytics, or secure software environments.
• Familiarity with secure development lifecycle practices and tools.

Physical & Work Environment

• This is a hybrid position that requires some onsite work in Savage, MD. Remote work will be coordinated per team policy.
• Standard visual acuity and manual dexterity to perform software engineering tasks.

Compensation & Benefits

• Anticipated salary range (good-faith estimate): $72,209.00 - $105,000.00 per year.
