What You’ll Do

This Early‑Career Software Engineer will join a team building AI‑powered applications and research solutions. Working with senior engineers and research staff, you will:

• Develop production software using Python and modern frameworks.
• Implement AI‑driven features using large language models (LLMs) and AI APIs.
• Build and maintain retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG) pipelines and agent-based workflows.
• Create and consume REST APIs and cloud‑native services.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well‑tested code; use AI coding assistants responsibly (e.g., Copilot, Claude Code).
• Participate in code reviews and architectural discussions.
• Support deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting of production applications.
• Help evaluate AI system quality, accuracy, reliability, and cost.
• Translate research requirements into reliable software solutions.
• Contribute to documentation and improvements to development standards and engineering practices.

What You’ll Need

Minimum qualifications (required):

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field — or equivalent experience.
• Academic or professional software development experience.
• Strong programming skills in Python or another modern language.
• Solid understanding of object‑oriented programming, algorithms, and data structures.
• Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Familiarity with REST APIs.
• Strong debugging and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and not require sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience or coursework in any of the following is a plus:

• Large Language Models (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, etc.)
• Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) and vector databases
• LangChain, LangGraph, or similar frameworks
• FastAPI, Docker, and containerization
• AWS or other cloud services
• SQL and NoSQL databases
• Automated testing and CI/CD pipelines
• Machine learning fundamentals and prompt engineering
• Contributions to open‑source projects or personal AI projects/hackathons

Compensation & Location

• Anticipated pay range (national average): $73,000 – $90,000 per year. Actual pay may vary by location and experience; geographic differentials may apply.
• This role may be based remotely within the United States. Candidates located near the client’s headquarters in the Research Triangle Park area (Durham, NC) are preferred for potential in‑person collaboration.
