Position Summary

This listing is for an Early Career Highway Engineer role supporting transportation and roadway design projects. The role is located in Watervliet, NY. Our client seeks an entry-level civil/transportation engineer to assist with roadway design tasks, project documentation, and basic field and office engineering duties.


What You’ll Do

  • Assist with roadway and transportation design tasks from concept through final design, including geometric design, complete streets elements, temporary traffic control, and limited-access highway components.
  • Collect, compile, and analyze data from site surveys, blueprints, GIS, subsurface utility information, maps, and geotechnical reports.
  • Produce technical plans, drawings, and documentation using electronic CAD/GIS tools and project systems.
  • Support permitting, due diligence, impact assessments, and construction documentation as needed.
  • Participate in basic field inspections and site verification to confirm existing conditions and report findings.
  • Follow safety guidelines and project-specific procedures while on-site and in the office.
  • Complete assigned training and contribute to team deliverables under general supervision.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • 0–1 years of relevant post-education experience (entry-level).
  • Strong research and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with design/build concepts and relevant civil construction codes, regulations, and compliance practices.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision and collaboratively as part of a project team.
  • Basic proficiency with office software, spreadsheets, and technical writing.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and ability to comply with health, safety, and workplace policies.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules and travel occasionally as project needs require.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree emphasis or coursework in Highway / Transportation Engineering.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward licensure.
  • Familiarity with discipline-specific software such as MicroStation, ArcGIS, or OpenRoads.
  • Internship or prior hands-on experience related to civil/transportation engineering.
  • Active participation or membership in local professional organizations.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Expected salary range: $63,800 - $85,000 per year (range provided in good faith; final offer may vary based on experience, skills, and location).
  • Benefits typically include medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, retirement savings, paid leave (sick, vacation, parental), and other standard employer-provided benefits.

Location & Work Model

  • Position location: Watervliet, NY (on-site / hybrid as required by project needs). Occasional travel to project sites across the region may be required.
