What You’ll Do

This entry-level geological/geotechnical role supports projects across solid waste, power, transportation, stormwater, infrastructure, and agriculture. You will contribute to field data collection, technical analysis, and engineering documentation while learning established practice and processes.

  • Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from work sites, including soil, water, sludge, rock, liner samples, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface information, maps, and geotechnical test results
  • Maintain quality control standards and accurate measurement and documentation practices
  • Support basic geotechnical and civil engineering tasks: subsurface investigations, soil/foundation evaluations, settlement analysis, erosion control, lateral earth pressures, geological hazard assessments, groundwater issues, and slope stability analyses
  • Provide entry-level technical assistance on design requirements and constructability for commercial, industrial, environmental, infrastructure, solid waste, and transportation projects
  • Help verify site characteristics, investigate subsurface conditions, and generate clear field notes, electronic records, and drawings
  • Follow safety guidelines and site-specific procedures; complete assigned training
  • Communicate effectively with project teams and clients, producing client-focused deliverables
  • Occasional travel to project sites as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline
  • 0–1 years of relevant post-education experience (entry-level)
  • Strong research and analytical mindset
  • Familiarity with design and construction processes and basic geotechnical concepts
  • Effective interpersonal and written communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences
  • Self-directed, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize multiple tasks in a dynamic environment
  • Basic technical writing skills and comfort with office software and spreadsheets
  • Familiarity with discipline-specific software (examples: MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, GeoSlope, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS)
  • Must have the ability to work in the United States immediately and meet project scheduling needs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
  • Relevant internship experience in geotechnical or civil engineering
  • Active participation in local professional organizations

  • Estimated base salary: $52,189 per year (estimated)
  • Employment type: FULL_TIME
  • Location: Holland, MI (onsite and field work as required)
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project needs
