This Opportunity

Confidential Client is seeking an Early Career Electrical Engineer to join its Herndon, VA team supporting mission-critical and data-center electrical engineering work. In this entry-level engineering role you will contribute to due diligence, permitting, design, development, and construction support for utility, commercial, and industrial projects — including substation and power distribution work, protection & control systems, and renewable-energy-related electrical systems. You will produce accurate documentation and help ensure design work meets applicable industry standards for safety and performance.

Your Impact

• Under general supervision, collect, compile, and analyze data for substation components and equipment specifications to support procurement and pricing.
• Assist with single-line and three-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, general arrangement, substation layout and bus arrangements.
• Support grounding grid and lightning protection design in conformance with applicable rules and permits.
• Help size equipment, feeders, and conduct voltage-drop and load calculations for AC/DC panels and power distribution systems.
• Provide entry-level technical assistance on cabling, conduit/trench design, and panel layouts to ensure safe, functional systems.
• Verify site characteristics and contribute to testing, maintenance, and construction procedures.
• Generate clear, concise documentation, drawings, and field notes using electronic tools.
• Follow site-specific safety procedures and company policies; complete assigned training and tasks.

Who You Are

• Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 0–1 years of relevant post-education experience (entry-level / early career).
• Strong analytical and research skills.
• General understanding of electrical engineering practices used in large capital project design.
• Familiarity with applicable electrical construction codes, standards, and record-keeping practices (IEEE, NESC, NERC concepts).
• Good interpersonal and communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Able to work independently under general supervision and as a contributing team member.
• Basic technical writing and office-software proficiency (spreadsheets, documentation tools).
• Familiarity with discipline-specific design tools (e.g., CADD, AutoCAD Electrical, Aspen/CAPE or similar).
• Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to health, safety, and drug/alcohol policies.
• Ability to work flexible schedules as project needs require; occasional travel may be necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward licensure.
• Prior internship experience related to electrical engineering.
• Active participation in local professional organizations (IEEE or similar).

Compensation: Expected salary range for this role: $82,000 - $100,000 per year. Final pay will be determined based on experience, education, and location, in accordance with applicable state and federal law.

This position is based in Herndon, VA. Employment type: Contractor. The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.
