Overview

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Downstream Associate to join its Center for Bioprocessing (C4B) site in Sharpstown (Houston), TX. This hands-on role supports protein purification and quality control activities in an industrial bioprocessing environment. The position is full-time and on-site.

What You’ll Do

This role supports downstream (purification) workflows and protein QC under the guidance of project scientists.

  • Perform recombinant protein and antibody purification from mammalian expression systems using chromatography (e.g., AKTA/FPLC/HPLC).
  • Execute established downstream SOPs to meet project specifications and client requirements.
  • Run protein QC assays including SDS-PAGE, HPLC-SEC, endotoxin testing, UV-Vis concentration measurements, and ELISA as needed.
  • Assist lead scientists with QC data preparation, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Maintain accurate batch records, lab notebooks, and QC documentation in compliance with internal standards.
  • Follow laboratory safety protocols, PPE use, and relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Assist with calibration, routine maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of chromatography and analytical instruments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support project coordination and delivery.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related field.
  • 0–3 years of relevant laboratory experience; coursework or internship exposure to protein purification and analytical techniques is acceptable.
  • Familiarity with chromatographic systems used for protein purification (AKTA/FPLC/HPLC).
  • Experience or exposure to protein QC assays (SDS-PAGE, HPLC-SEC, endotoxin testing, ELISA).
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills; attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Able to lift and move 25–50 lbs as required.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including early/late weekday shifts and occasional weekend work depending on project needs.
