What You’ll Do

This role focuses on diagnosing and improving enterprise C/C++ build, dependency, and CI/CD workflows rather than new feature development. You will:

• Analyze and troubleshoot code dependencies, linking issues, and build behavior across a large C/C++ codebase
• Debug complex build failures, runtime defects, and integration issues in Linux environments
• Support modernization efforts for CI/CD pipelines (transitioning toward GitLab-based pipelines)
• Investigate and improve software modularity, dependency management, and build efficiency
• Use and improve build tools and scripts (Git, Make/CMake) and recommend automation improvements
• Collaborate with engineers across teams to shape future build automation and pipeline processes
• Work independently in technically ambiguous areas and document findings and remediation steps

Minimum Qualifications

• Strong professional experience with C and C++ development and troubleshooting
• Deep understanding of compilation, linking, and runtime behavior in C/C++ environments
• Proven ability to debug complex, non-trivial software and build problems
• Experience working in Linux-based development environments
• Experience using Git in collaborative development workflows
• Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and pipelines (GitLab experience preferred)
• Active Secret clearance required
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field
• Ability to work onsite at the Manassas, VA location (this is a fully onsite contract role)

Preferred / Additional Skills

• Hands-on experience with Make and/or CMake
• Familiarity with modern C++ standards (C++11 or newer) and memory-management concepts (smart pointers, containers, heap vs. stack)
• Exposure to package/dependency management tools and CI/CD migration projects
• Experience with Agile tools such as Jira and Confluence
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical collaboration and documentation

Compensation & Benefits

• Pay range: $50.00 - $75.00 per hour (hourly range provided by the client)
• Final offer within the range will depend on qualifications, experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors
