Position Summary
Confidential Client is seeking a Mid–Senior DOD Clearance Software Engineer to join a cleared engineering team supporting defense-oriented programs. This is a full-time, on-site position located in Camden, NJ. Candidates must hold an active DoD Secret clearance (or higher) and be able to work onsite full time under a 9/80 schedule (every other Friday off).
What You’ll Do
- Design, develop, integrate, and maintain production-grade software systems and RESTful services that support defense programs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, product owners, and systems engineers to translate requirements into reliable software solutions.
- Serve in a senior engineering capacity — providing technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers, and helping define technical direction.
- Participate in Agile (or hybrid-Agile) ceremonies and deliverables; contribute to sprint planning, design reviews, and continuous improvement.
- Support proposal development activities, cost estimation, and EVMS-influenced program planning when required.
- Ensure code quality through code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD best practices.
- Occasionally travel to program sites or conferences as required.
Qualifications
Minimum required (one of the following):
- Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or
- Graduate degree plus a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience; or
- In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 13 years of related experience.
Additional expectations:
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience is strongly preferred (Mid–Senior level).
- Prior experience in a senior engineering, technical lead, or informal leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience designing, developing, or integrating RESTful services in a production environment.
- Active DoD Secret security clearance (or higher) required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across disciplines and program teams.
- Experience working in Agile or hybrid-Agile development environments.
- Exposure to proposal development, cost estimation, or EVMS-driven program environments is a plus.
- Willingness to travel occasionally.
Desired / Preferred Skills
- Proven experience with backend services and APIs (REST).
- Familiarity with defense program lifecycle, compliance, and security practices.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and modern development toolchains.
- Leadership or mentoring experience within software teams.
- Strong problem-solving and systems-integration mindset.
Work Location & Schedule
- Location: On-site in Camden, NJ (Confidential Client facility).
- Schedule: Full-time, 9/80 schedule (onsite 100% with every other Friday off).
- Must possess and maintain an active DoD Secret clearance or higher.
