Distribution Engineer
The Distribution Engineer will design, plan, and optimize electric distribution systems, supporting upgrades, maintenance, and ensuring system reliability and safety. The position is based in Tuscaloosa/Northport, AL, and is open to entry-level and experienced engineers with up to 10 years of relevant experience.

Position Overview
Confidential Client (via Careertakes) is hiring a Distribution Engineer to design, plan, optimize, and support the maintenance of electric distribution systems in Reform, AL. This opening may be filled at an Entry-Level Engineer or Engineer II (Experienced) level depending on the candidate’s background.
- Estimated pay: $75,744 per year (estimated)
- Employment type: Full-time
- Location: Reform, AL (onsite / candidates must live in or be willing to relocate to the Reform area)
What You’ll Do
- Design and plan electrical distribution systems and power lines.
- Support distribution system upgrades, replacements, and maintenance projects.
- Perform technical analyses such as:
- Load flow analysis
- Fault analysis
- Voltage drop calculations
- Optimize distribution networks for reliability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Manage distribution projects from planning and design through implementation.
- Prepare and maintain engineering drawings, records, and project documentation.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews of distribution system designs.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards, regulations, and environmental requirements.
- Coordinate with engineers, field technicians, project managers, and other stakeholders.
- Provide technical support for field activities and customer-related distribution issues.
- Promote safe work practices and support reliable system operations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, quality, and safety.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional engineering and field teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing project needs.
- Must reside in or be willing to relocate to the Reform, AL area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with electric utility or distribution system design.
- Knowledge of distribution system design software and engineering tools (e.g., load-flow / power-system analysis tools).
- Familiarity with utility industry codes, standards, and regulations.
- Experience with project planning, budgeting, and execution.
- Experience performing load flow, fault, or voltage-drop studies.
- Previous power delivery, utility, or field engineering experience.
Experience Level
This role may be filled at either level depending on qualifications:
- Entry-Level Engineer: Recent engineering graduate or candidate with limited related experience.
- Experienced Distribution Engineer / Engineer II: Approximately 5–10 years of relevant distribution engineering experience.
