What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking a Distribution Engineer to support power distribution infrastructure upgrades and storm-hardening projects in and around Maitland, FL. This role contributes to engineering calculations, designs, drawings, and coordination that improve reliability across primary and secondary distribution systems.

  • Perform engineering calculations and design work for distribution upgrades, reconductoring, underground conversions, pole replacements, and storm hardening projects.
  • Complete pole structural analyses, including pole loading and guying design.
  • Run cable pulling calculations, evaluate demand and fault currents, and support protective device coordination.
  • Prepare accurate engineering drawings and construction documentation using CAD and distribution design tools.
  • Apply utility standards and design criteria to ensure safe, code-compliant distribution systems.
  • Research design alternatives, document recommendations, and present solutions to internal teams and customers.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and project managers in an office-based, team-oriented environment.
  • Maintain project records and documentation using tools such as BOUD, Maximo, Smallworld, Bentley Open Utility Designer, and MicroStation when applicable.
  • Participate actively in on-the-job training, mentorship, and continuous technical development under licensed Professional Engineers.

Who We’re Looking For (Qualifications)

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering. Applicants with 2+ years of relevant designer experience may be considered in lieu of the degree.
  • Basic knowledge of electric utility distribution systems, primary and secondary networks, and utility standards.
  • Hands-on experience or familiarity with AutoCAD and other CAD/drafting tools used for distribution design.
  • Understanding of fundamental engineering principles and ability to apply them to distribution design tasks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable interacting with customers and developers about project impacts and requirements.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and eager to learn; able to work with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) credential or successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam is a plus.
  • Interest in pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure under mentorship is desirable.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Experience performing distribution design work for major utilities, such as Duke Energy or similar systems.
  • Familiarity with BOUD, Maximo, Smallworld, Bentley Open Utility Designer, and MicroStation.
  • Practical experience with pole load analysis, reconductoring, or underground conversion projects.
  • Customer-facing experience coordinating requirements with developers, municipalities, or contractors.

Work Environment & Location

This is a fully onsite, contract-to-hire position based in Maitland, FL. You will join a collaborative office team of engineers and designers that emphasizes mentorship, professional development, and long-term reliability projects for major utilities. Entry-level engineers receive structured on-the-job training and direct mentorship from multiple Professional Engineers.


Pay & Benefits

  • Contract-to-hire; pay rate: $26.00 per hour.
  • Compensation offered will depend on experience, relevant skills, and other job-related factors.
