What You’ll Do
As a Distribution Designer (entry-level), you will develop and coordinate electrical distribution designs from concept through construction support and help ensure projects are delivered on schedule and to specification.
- Prepare detailed distribution system designs, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates
- Produce construction and engineering drawings using GIS and CADD platforms
- Support overhead and underground distribution projects for utility clients
- Interpret engineering standards and utility specifications to produce compliant designs
- Assist with engineering calculations, project evaluations, and material requisitions
- Coordinate schedules, equipment deliveries, and project communication with stakeholders
- Conduct field visits to gather data and validate designs
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, technicians, and client contacts
- Provide guidance to designers/technicians on assigned tasks and act as lead on smaller projects
What We’re Looking For
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience or exposure to utility power distribution design
- Solid understanding of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems
- Proficiency with GIS platforms (preferably Smallworld or GWD)
- Experience using AutoCAD and other CADD tools
- Background in an electric utility, engineering consulting firm, or related environment
- Ability to manage client interactions and support project coordination
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality deliverables
- Ability to follow engineering standards and established procedures
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability and leadership potential
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience balancing office design work with field assignments
- Familiarity with electric utility design standards and construction practices
- Ability to support multiple projects and meet deadlines
Work Environment
This position includes both office and field responsibilities. Candidates should be comfortable with local travel for site visits and working with both digital and manual design tools.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based in Raleigh, NC (fully onsite).
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $23.00 per hour. Actual pay within this range will depend on factors such as qualifications, experience, and location.
