What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking a Clinical Dietitian to provide high-quality nutrition care across inpatient and outpatient settings. You will use the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) and evidence-based practice to assess, diagnose, intervene, monitor and evaluate patient nutrition needs. Tasks include:

• Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments and develop individualized care plans
• Deliver nutrition counseling and education in-person and via virtual care technologies
• Document clinical encounters and maintain accurate records using approved systems
• Apply evidence-based nutrition practice guidelines and interpret relevant research
• Participate in performance improvement projects and data collection/analysis
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and Food Service to support patient satisfaction
• Ensure compliance with accrediting and regulatory requirements (e.g., The Joint Commission)
• Provide supervision, training, or mentorship when assigned (developmental roles)

Role Details

• Employment type: Full time, Contractor
• Grade / level: Selection range typically GS-7 to GS-11 (entry to full performance). Actual grade at hire depends on qualifications.
• Salary: $50,460 - $97,087 per year
• Location: Las Cruces, NM (on-site with virtual care duties as required)
• U.S. Citizenship: May be required for specific appointments (as permitted by law and role authority)

Required Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:

• Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Registered Dietitian (RD) credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), OR for GS-7/GS-9 only, meet non-credentialed appointment conditions described below
• Bachelor's degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution; foreign degrees must be ACEND-evaluated when applicable
• Completion of an ACEND-accredited supervised practice/experiential program or verification of eligibility to sit for the CDR registration exam
• Demonstrated ability to deliver patient care using the NCP (assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring, evaluation)
• Ability to apply evidence-based nutrition practices and develop patient-centered goals
• Strong documentation and record-keeping skills using clinical systems
• Ability to use virtual care tools to provide remote nutrition services (telehealth)

Note on non-credentialed appointments (GS-7 and GS-9): Candidates without RDN/RD may be considered for temporary developmental appointments under specific authorities if they meet educational and supervised practice requirements and obtain credentialing within required timelines.

Preferred Experience

• One year outpatient experience
• One year inpatient experience
• Training in motivational interviewing or diabetes education (e.g., Certified Diabetes Educator)
• Experience leading or contributing to performance improvement initiatives

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of accrediting and regulatory standards relevant to clinical nutrition services
• Skill delivering care using the NCP and translating research into practice
• Ability to collect and analyze data for quality improvement
• Strong collaboration and communication skills with clinical teams and food service stakeholders
• Capacity to work independently at the GS-11 / full performance level when applicable
