What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking a Design and Release Engineer – Driveshafts based in Livonia, MI. In this hybrid, full‑time role you will lead CAD-driven product release, BOM management, and design-for-manufacturability activities that improve driveshaft performance, durability, and cost.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and release of driveshaft components and assemblies.
• Manage product release CAD and BOM structures, including assembly positioning and mass attribute analysis.
• Support supplier data integration and supplier-driven CAD deliverables.
• Perform CAD feasibility analyses: draft angle checks, undercut detection, minimum bend radius validation (sheet metal), and clearance checks for manufacturing and machining.
• Use PLM workflows for version control, check-in/check-out, data release, and change management.
• Drive cross-functional collaboration with Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and other engineering teams to ensure smooth implementation.
• Oversee testing and validation protocols (dynamometer and in-vehicle where applicable) and translate results into design improvements.
• Participate in design reviews, lead technical problem resolution, and mentor team members as needed.
• Deliver to cost, quality, and schedule targets.

Qualifications

You’ll have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Approximately 2 years of experience working with driveshafts in an automotive domain (including internships, co-ops or SAE projects).
• At least 1 year of CAD experience.

Even better if you have:

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Experience with dynamometer and in-vehicle performance and durability testing.
• Practical knowledge of systems engineering principles.
• Familiarity with design and release tools such as WERS, Teamcenter, FEDE, ED&T and release processes (DVP, DFMEA, Quality History, Warranty Analysis).
• Proficiency with engineering analysis and CAE tools, and with Microsoft Office.
• Strong communication, presentation, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to travel occasionally (estimated less than 10%).

Compensation & Benefits

This role is salaried. Salary grade and range will depend on experience and role scope; examples of applicable ranges include:

• Grade 5: $65,100 – $109,300 per year
• Grade 6: $74,300 – $124,500 per year
• Grade 7: $86,600 – $144,900 per year
• Grade 8: $99,100 – $166,200 per year
