What You’ll Do

This role is for an early-career Mechanical / Design Engineer focused on engine installation and mechanical system integration. Working with Confidential Client, you will support New Engine Installation (NEI) programs and off-highway industrial power-unit projects by translating requirements into manufacturable designs and driving technical problem solving.

  • Lead investigation and resolution of product and design issues for NEI programs and field applications, identify root causes, recommend solutions, and document outcomes to drive continuous improvement.
  • Support engineering and product development processes including Critical Design Decisions, Design Reviews, and System Design & Validation Checklists.
  • Use engineering methods and tools such as iDFMEA, DVA, GD&T, CREO, and ANSYS Workbench to evaluate and validate component and subsystem designs.
  • Prepare Design Review packages that communicate design intent, trade-offs, and verification plans.
  • Contribute to CEAF (Customer Engineering Approval Form), NEI, and Engineering Change Request (ECR) activities — support concept selection, optimization, and specification development.
  • Resolve moderately complex technical challenges balancing performance, quality, reliability, and customer requirements.
  • Execute established engineering processes independently while identifying opportunities to improve workflows and design practices.
  • Coordinate with technicians and temporary team members during prototype builds and validation activities.
  • Collaborate with Application Engineering, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and cross-functional teams to deliver robust, customer-focused solutions.

Required & Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate STEM field (or equivalent experience).
  • Entry-level / early career professional; interns, co-ops, or candidates with early-career hands-on engineering experience are encouraged.
  • Familiarity with CAD modeling and mechanical design tools — CREO experience preferred.
  • Knowledge or experience with GD&T, dimensional variation analysis (DVA), and finite element analysis (ANSYS Workbench) is a strong plus.
  • Ability to create engineering drawings, solid models, and bills of materials that meet standards.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, decision-making, and results-oriented skills.
  • Comfortable applying systems thinking and requirements engineering to translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements.
  • Experience with MS Office and engineering documentation tools.

Location, Employment Type & Compensation

  • Location: Norwoodville, IA (on-site with flexibility; this role supports prototype builds and testing)
  • Employment type: Contract / Full-time (per client hiring)
