Position overview

Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Design Engineer based in Itasca, IL. This role supports the design-to-production lifecycle for industrial/manufacturing products—preparing and maintaining engineering documentation, collaborating with manufacturing and operations teams, and applying CAD and analytical tools to support product development and continuous improvement.


What You’ll Do

  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, technical specifications, and detailed drawings to support production and quality requirements.
  • Use CAD/design software to create and revise part and assembly models.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, operations, and cross-functional teams to identify and resolve technical issues on the production floor.
  • Support design reviews, product validation, and engineering calculations.
  • Analyze product performance issues and recommend corrective actions or design improvements.
  • Assist with material selection, process feasibility evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Document changes and maintain configuration control in accordance with quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (3.0 GPA preferred).
  • Prior engineering internship, co-op, or other relevant experience is preferred but not required.
  • Experience using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, or similar).
  • Familiarity with product design and manufacturing environments; understanding of fabrication or machining processes is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills; ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated, with a continuous improvement mindset.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with simulation, modeling, or design validation tools.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Exposure to quality systems, engineering change control, or project management tools.
  • Hands-on experience with fabrication or machining processes.
