Overview

This Contract-to-Hire Design Engineer role is an entry-level mechanical design and quoting position based in Rockford, ID. The Confidential Client seeks a candidate who can produce 3D SolidWorks models and drawings, develop accurate manufacturing cost estimates and customer quotations, and work closely with sales, manufacturing, purchasing, and engineering teams to deliver competitive engineered solutions.

What You’ll Do

• Create and revise 3D mechanical designs and assemblies using SolidWorks.
• Review customer RFQs, drawings, and technical specifications to define scope.
• Prepare cost estimates, customer quotations, and proposal documentation for manufactured products.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing and sales to assess feasibility, lead times, and pricing.
• Respond to customer and sales technical inquiries and clarify requirements.
• Maintain quote documentation and pricing records in ERP/CRM systems.

What We’re Looking For (Qualifications)

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Associate degree plus relevant hands‑on experience.
• Practical experience using SolidWorks for mechanical design.
• Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, costing, and quotation practices.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate across functions.
• Detail-oriented with good organizational and documentation skills.

Nice-to-Have (Preferred)

• Prior experience preparing quotes, cost estimates, or proposals in a manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of machining, fabrication, or custom-engineered products.
• Sheet metal design experience is a plus.

This is a Contract-to-Hire, fully onsite role based in Rockford, ID.

Compensation & Benefits

• Pay range: $30.00 - $33.00 per hour.
• Final compensation within this range will depend on qualifications, experience, and other job-related factors.
