What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking compassionate, detail-oriented professionals to serve as Deputy Public Guardian I/II in Hanford, CA. In this role you will manage conservatorship and guardianship caseloads and protect the health, safety, and financial interests of vulnerable adults.

  • Conduct intake assessments to evaluate need for conservatorship or guardianship (financial, medical, social, psychological).
  • Interview clients, family members, and collateral contacts; compile evidence to support petitions to County Counsel.
  • Manage personal and financial affairs for conservatees, including budgeting, bill payment, asset security, and representative payee duties.
  • Coordinate with medical providers, behavioral health professionals, attorneys, and community agencies to ensure appropriate care and services.
  • Prepare case documentation, service plans, court reports, and testify in judicial or administrative hearings.
  • Arrange housing, transportation, and placements as needed and monitor client compliance with treatment plans.
  • Provide training and mentorship to less experienced staff and volunteers.
  • Work occasional irregular hours, participate in on-call rotations, and complete required background/credit checks.

Duty Sample

The position may include learning opportunities for entry-level (I) staff. Management reserves the right to add, modify, or rescind work assignments and to provide reasonable accommodations so qualified employees can perform essential functions.

  • Perform fiscal management and Representative Payee services for assigned clients.
  • Coordinate legal representation and attend hearings for conservatees.
  • Assist clients in obtaining benefits (Social Security, Medi-Cal, veterans’ benefits, state disability) and act as an advocate with federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Secure and manage client assets, arrange for safe storage/disposition of property, and, upon case closure, ensure proper estate distribution.

Compensation

Confidential Client offers competitive pay with growth across levels:

  • Level I: $53,830.40 - $65,665.60 per year
  • Level II: $59,446.40 - $72,571.20 per year

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS — Minimum requirements must be met by the closing date

Education

  • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in psychology, social services, public administration, business administration, or a related field.

Experience

  • Deputy Public Guardian I: One (1) year of professional experience in a Public Guardian, social services, or related program.
  • Deputy Public Guardian II: Two (2) years of experience in social services or a related program equivalent to Deputy Public Guardian I.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license at the time of appointment.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, certification with the California Public Administrators, Public Guardians, Public Conservators Association (CAPAPGPC).

Special Requirements

  • Ability to pass a background investigation and fingerprint check, including a credit check.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours (evenings, nights, weekends) and participate in on-call rotation.

Selection Process
