Position overview

Confidential Client is hiring a full-time Democracy Coordinator based in Dimondale, MI (hybrid). This role supports nonpartisan democracy and civic engagement programs across Michigan, including voter education, election protection, coalition building, research, volunteer coordination, and affiliate outreach. Regular travel across Michigan and occasional evenings/weekends are required.


What You’ll Do

  • Support development and implementation of nonpartisan democracy and civic-engagement programs (voter education, registration, election protection, democracy defense, voting-rights monitoring).
  • Assist the Executive Director with work plans, timelines, deliverables, and performance tracking for democracy initiatives.
  • Monitor legal, administrative, and policy developments affecting elections and civic participation in Michigan; identify engagement opportunities.
  • Conduct legal, policy, and programmatic research on voting rights, election administration, redistricting, and electoral reform.
  • Draft clear research memoranda, briefing materials, training materials, presentations, and reports for leadership and partners.
  • Translate complex legal and data-driven information into accessible materials for labor leaders, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Build and maintain relationships with voting-rights, civil-rights, legal, academic, faith-based, and community organizations.
  • Participate in coalition meetings and represent the organization externally as assigned.
  • Engage affiliated unions, Central Labor Councils, constituency groups, and other labor partners to increase participation in democracy work.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and support volunteers for Election Protection, Democracy Defense, and related programs.
  • Maintain accurate volunteer records, training logs, schedules, and deployment plans.
  • Coordinate with shared-service departments (communications, finance, IT, procurement) to support program needs.
  • Support rapid-response election-period coordination and communications with volunteers and partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, labor studies, communications, community organizing, or equivalent experience; strong transferable skills considered.
  • Entry-level candidates encouraged to apply; training will be provided.
  • Strong research, analytical, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-starter with initiative, intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, and accountability.
  • Ability to learn quickly, manage multiple projects, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, and relationship-building skills across diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Comfortable working independently in a hybrid environment while collaborating with colleagues and partners.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly within Michigan and work evenings/weekends as needed.
  • Commitment to nonpartisan civic engagement, economic and social justice, and workers’ rights.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in labor, community organizing, civic engagement, voting-rights work, election protection, or related public-policy work.
  • Experience preparing reports, training materials, or briefing memoranda.
  • Experience recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers.
  • Familiarity with Michigan’s civic, governmental, electoral, or labor landscape.

Location, Compensation & Terms

  • Work location: Hybrid — Dimondale, MI (expected combination of in-office, remote, and field work).
  • Employment type: Full-Time; Exempt.
  • Reports to: Executive Director.
  • Supervisory responsibilities: None.
  • Travel: Regular in-state travel required.
  • Schedule: May include evenings and weekends during elections, trainings, and events.
  • Salary range: $55,000–$65,000 per year (commensurate with experience).
  • Union status: Non-union.
  • Benefits: Comprehensive healthcare and employer-supported retirement (401(k) with employer contributions) and other benefits per plan terms and eligibility.
