Position Overview
Confidential Client is seeking dedicated Day Habilitation Specialists to join a day habilitation program in Hauppauge, NY. This entry-level, full‑time role supports adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to reach personal goals, build independence, and participate in community and pre‑vocational activities.
What You’ll Do
- Help program participants achieve and exceed personal goals
- Provide structure, emotional support, and positive behavioral guidance
- Assist with personal hygiene and daily living skills
- Support participants during volunteer and pre‑vocational activities; transport using agency vehicles
- Complete accurate, timely documentation and progress notes
- Assist with safe lifting and transfers as needed
- Maintain professional boundaries and follow program protocols
Qualifications & Requirements
- Valid, clean New York State driver’s license
- High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years MR/DD experience OR Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree OR 3 years related experience
- Some experience with the intellectually/developmentally disabled population preferred — training provided
- Complete AMAP (Approved Medication Administration Personnel) and SCIP (Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention) training within 6 months of hire and maintain certifications
- Ability to lift and assist with transfers of adult participants
- Able to read, write, and communicate in English effectively
- Flexibility to be reassigned to other programs or locations as needed
- Prior experience in caregiver, direct care, personal assistant, residential support, or similar roles is a plus
Schedule & Compensation
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (40 hours/week)
- Estimated pay: $25,591 per year (estimated)
