Day Habilitation Specialist - PWW East Islip
The Day Habilitation Specialist supports adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in achieving personal goals and increasing independence through structured activities and emotional support. What You’ll Do
This role supports adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a day habilitation setting. You will help participants reach personal goals, assist with daily living skills, provide behavioral support, and transport participants to activities using agency vehicles.
- Help participants achieve and exceed personal goals
- Provide structure, encouragement, and emotional support
- Assist in resolving behavioral issues using approved approaches
- Support personal hygiene and basic daily living tasks
- Complete detailed, accurate documentation and progress notes
- Transport participants to/from volunteer and pre-vocational activities using agency vehicles
Qualifications & Requirements
To be considered for this position you must meet one of the education/experience combinations below and be able to meet licensing/training requirements.
- HS diploma or equivalent plus 2 years MR/DD experience OR Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree OR 3 years related experience
- Clean, valid New York State driver’s license
- Ability to assist with lifting and transferring an adult person as needed
- Willingness and flexibility to be reassigned to other programs/locations when required
- Complete required trainings (AMAP — Approved Medication Administration Personnel, and SCIP — Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention) within 6 months of hire and maintain them thereafter
- Ability to understand and communicate in English, both verbally and in writing
- Prior experience as Caregiver, Care Assistant, Direct Support Professional, Resident Assistant, Nursing Assistant, Home Care Aide, Personal Assistant, or Companion is a plus
Schedule & Compensation
- Typical schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
- Full-time: 40 hours per week
- Estimated pay (from source): $29,038 per year — actual compensation may vary based on experience and program
