What You’ll Do

The Database Specialist is an entry-level role supporting the maintenance, accuracy, and performance of state database systems used by the Department of Corrections. You will work under the supervision of senior database staff to perform routine updates, data validation, and basic troubleshooting to ensure reliable data access for agency users.

  • Assist with data entry, validation, and verification to maintain data integrity.
  • Support creation and maintenance of database structures and assist with data storage and retrieval processes.
  • Monitor basic database performance metrics and assist in resolving minor query or access issues.
  • Assist with backup and restore operations and follow data recovery procedures.
  • Run routine database health checks and contribute to system optimizations.
  • Help prepare ad-hoc reports and data extractions for internal stakeholders.
  • Document procedures, policies, and standards; escalate complex issues to senior staff.

Compensation & Location

  • Anticipated Starting Salary: $60,416.10
  • Salary Range: $60,416 - $98,574 (annual)
  • Location: DOC Headquarters — North Little Rock, AR
  • Posting End Date: 10/13/2026

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with JIRA for issue tracking and ticket management.
  • Experience with SAP BusinessObjects or similar reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with relational database systems (examples: SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL) and electronic offender management systems or comparable case-management databases.
  • Proficiency with SQL and writing basic queries.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience with data extraction.
  • Attention to detail and experience validating large datasets.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Basic understanding of relational database principles and data integrity.
  • Ability to write and troubleshoot SQL queries.
  • Familiarity with common DBMS platforms (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL).
  • Strong problem-solving, documentation, and teamwork skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and grow toward database administration responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • OTHER JOB-RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL.

  • This role is designated as Safety-Sensitive and is subject to random drug testing per the agency’s personnel policies. Use or possession of medical marijuana is prohibited for Safety-Sensitive positions, even when state medical marijuana laws might otherwise allow use.
