What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring a Data Scientist to turn operational and filing data into defensible evidence for mission-critical decisions. In this role you will:

  • Frame analytical questions with mission owners and translate them into testable designs
  • Build analyses and models in Python and SQL against a cloud-native data platform (Amazon Aurora/Postgres-compatible, S3 with Apache Iceberg, and related AWS analytics services)
  • Design and document model evaluation: baselines, error analyses, validation that supports regulated decision-making
  • Harden exploratory notebooks into reproducible, reviewed analytical pipelines
  • Present findings to decision-makers clearly, using visuals to communicate evidence
  • Use AI-assisted tools (LLMs and coding assistants) responsibly as part of the analysis lifecycle

Employment type: Full-time
Work arrangement: Hybrid — Washington, D.C. metropolitan area; regular commuting into Washington, D.C. required.

Salary range: $78,000–$147,000 per year


You Should Have

  • 3+ years of applied data science or statistical modeling experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (required)
  • Strong working command of Python and SQL
  • Working knowledge of statistics, machine learning, and model validation
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data and analytics services on AWS
  • Engineering habits that produce trustworthy analysis: version control, reproducible pipelines, tested transformations, clear documentation
  • Clear written and verbal communication; ability to carry an analysis from question to defended conclusion
  • Precision and attention to auditability in regulated or high-scrutiny environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Experience with modern data platforms (Amazon Aurora, S3 + Apache Iceberg, AWS Glue, Trino)
  • Experience applying large language models to analytical work (Amazon Bedrock or comparable)
  • Data-visualization craft: chart design, dashboards, and charting libraries
  • Federal IT experience or work supporting government programs
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted developer tooling

Clearance & Work Authorization

  • Sole United States citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust determination are required for this initial engagement.
