Data Scientist
The Data Scientist at Confidential Client develops advanced forecasting, optimization, and control algorithms that drive real-time energy demand and market price predictions, enabling second-by-second asset control decisions worth millions. This role involves working on complex, stochastic energy systems to optimize energy use, reduce costs, and support the transition to a flexible, renewable grid, with direct impact through deployed models and control systems in production environments.
About Careertakes

Applicants for this role may also receive access to additional matched opportunities through the Careertakes platform.
Why this role matters
Join a Confidential Client building forecasting, optimization, and control models that directly influence energy operations and financial outcomes. Your work will be deployed in production to steer assets (batteries, flexible loads, portfolios) and translate predictions into second-by-second decisions that move megawatts and money.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and validate short-term forecasting models for energy demand, renewable production, and market prices, including uncertainty estimates that feed downstream systems.
- Design and implement control algorithms (e.g., Model Predictive Control, stochastic control) that convert forecasts and market signals into real-time asset dispatch decisions.
- Build optimization pipelines to schedule flexibility across portfolios and market participation under uncertainty.
- Close the loop: integrate prediction, planning, and execution so systems operate autonomously and robustly in stochastic environments.
- Deploy models and controls to production, monitor performance versus financial and operational metrics, and iterate to improve outcomes.
- Work closely with engineering and product teams to move solutions from prototypes to scalable services.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong foundation in machine learning, time series forecasting, and statistical modeling.
- Experience with control approaches such as MPC, stochastic optimal control, or similar real-time decision frameworks.
- Familiarity with short-term power/flexibility trading, electricity markets, or energy systems is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in Python and scientific/data stack (pandas, NumPy/SciPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch or equivalent).
- Experience cleaning and modeling real-world time series data.
- Demonstrated ability to deploy models and algorithms in production systems (beyond notebooks).
- Practical mindset: you balance theoretical rigor with pragmatic shipping to deliver measurable value.
- Experience with mathematical optimization (linear/quadratic programming, mixed-integer, stochastic programming) is a strong plus.
Location & Work Model
- Location: Searsmont, ME (US)
- Work model: Hybrid — role expects a combination of on-site and remote work per the Confidential Client’s policies.
Hiring Process & Candidate Support
- Typical process: intro call → technical case → follow-up conversations with the team and leadership.
- We move efficiently and provide timely feedback.
- Reasonable accommodations are available for applicants with disabilities. If you need an accommodation during the hiring process, please let us know.
