Role Overview

Confidential Client is seeking a Data Scientist (Python) to join a remote-first team. This full-time role focuses on developing, training, evaluating, and fine-tuning AI models. You will write production-quality Python code for model training, run rigorous evaluations, create task-specific datasets for supervised fine-tuning, and collaborate closely with researchers and annotators to improve model alignment and performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain efficient Python code to train and optimize AI/ML models.
• Run and analyze evaluations to benchmark model performance and drive iterative improvements.
• Evaluate, rank, and provide detailed rationales for model responses across diverse domains and prompts.
• Prepare high-quality, task-specific datasets and lead supervised fine-tuning efforts.
• Collaborate with researchers, data annotators, and engineers on reinforcement learning with human feedback (RLHF) workflows.
• Produce clear technical documentation and reproducible Jupyter notebooks that explain reasoning, evaluation methodology, and results.
• Debug model pipelines and contribute to continuous integration and deployment practices for ML workflows.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in Python for data analysis and model development (required).
• Practical experience with data science and machine learning techniques (required).
• Experience designing and running model evaluations and interpreting quantitative/qualitative results.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to extract insights from public datasets and model outputs.
• Excellent written communication skills; ability to clearly document reasoning, assumptions, and evaluation logic in Jupyter notebooks or similar.
• Experience producing and curating labeled datasets for supervised training and fine-tuning.
• Detail-oriented with solid debugging skills and commitment to producing reliable, well-documented code.

Preferred / Nice-to-have

• Familiarity with modern neural networks and transformer-based models.
• Experience with RLHF, reward model development, or annotator workflows.
• Familiarity with ML tooling (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow), experiment tracking, and model-serving basics.
• Prior experience working in remote, cross-functional AI/ML teams.
