Role Overview

Confidential Client is seeking a Data Scientist to join a Policy & Community-facing analytics team that supports transportation and mobility programs. You will build and maintain data pipelines, improve data governance and quality, bridge cloud-based analytics with legacy systems, and produce reproducible analysis that directly informs policy decisions (congestion, fares, driver pay, electrification, and infrastructure).

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct rigorous statistical analysis and produce maintainable, reproducible code to support policy recommendations.
  • Design, build, and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes that integrate cloud-based systems with legacy data sources.
  • Improve and enforce data governance practices, including documentation, data dictionaries, and lineage tracking.
  • Monitor data quality and completeness; propose and implement fixes to upstream processes and aggregate tables.
  • Manage complex, iterative data projects across policy and methodology cycles.
  • Respond to ad hoc analytic requests with accurate, timely results.
  • Present findings to senior staff and external stakeholders; translate technical results for non-technical audiences.
  • Mentor junior analysts and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to produce high-quality, actionable analyses.

Who We’re Looking For (Required Qualifications)

  • Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., data science, statistics, public policy, economics, computer science) and a minimum of 2–3 years of applied research or data analysis experience; OR a doctorate in a relevant field with at least 1 year of professional experience; or equivalent education/experience.
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining data pipelines and data products.
  • Proven ability to produce maintainable, well-documented code and reproducible analyses.
  • Experience working with cloud-based analytics platforms and integrating them with legacy systems.
  • Strong quantitative and statistical skills with an emphasis on practical, policy-focused analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills: experience presenting technical work to senior and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and ad hoc requests.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with transportation, mobility, or municipal policy data.
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks and best practices for documentation and data quality.
  • Prior experience mentoring team members or leading small analytic projects.

Location & Work Model

  • Work location: New York, NY — this position is tied to the job location and will require presence in New York for on-site responsibilities. Any flexible or hybrid arrangements will be determined by the hiring manager and client policies.

Other Important Notes

  • Appointments may be subject to oversight or approval processes required by the client.
  • Probationary period or onboarding requirements will be defined by the hiring organization.
