What You’ll Do

This is an entry-level / early-career Data Scientist role with strong emphasis on database development, ETL, and data management. You will work with a cross-functional team to deliver reliable data solutions that support business reporting and analytics.

  • Develop, test, and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, views, and other database objects
  • Write efficient SQL to retrieve, analyze, and manipulate large datasets
  • Perform data extraction, transformation, validation, and loading (ETL) activities
  • Assist in designing and maintaining relational database structures and data models
  • Monitor query performance and support database optimization efforts
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues and data quality problems
  • Generate reports and analyses to support business and operational requirements
  • Collaborate with developers, data engineers, business analysts, and DBAs
  • Assist with database migration, integration, and data warehouse projects
  • Document database designs, SQL scripts, and technical processes
  • Stay current with database technologies and best practices

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent project/internship experience) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field
  • Solid knowledge of SQL programming
  • Familiarity with relational databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL
  • Understanding of database concepts: tables, keys, indexes, views, constraints
  • Experience with joins, subqueries, Common Table Expressions (CTEs), and window functions
  • Basic familiarity with stored procedures, functions, triggers, and transactions
  • Familiarity with version control systems (Git)
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment

Preferred (nice to have)

  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL in production
  • Familiarity with ETL tools such as SSIS, Informatica, Talend, or AWS Glue
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts (star/snowflake schemas)
  • Exposure to reporting/visualization tools: Power BI, Tableau, SSRS
  • Basic Python or other scripting/programming language experience
  • Familiarity with cloud database services (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Understanding of query optimization and database performance tuning
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams

Location, Type & Compensation

  • Location: Los Angeles, CA — this role is based in Los Angeles; candidates must be open to relocation if not local
  • Employment type: Full-time
  • Compensation (provided by client): $30–$38 per hour
