Overview

Confidential Client (Research) is looking for a Data Scientist to join a multidisciplinary team developing data-driven algorithms, scalable software, and system-level solutions to challenging R&D problems. This role supports applied research and development across data-intensive applications including machine learning, natural language processing, graph analysis, and high-performance computing. The position offers a hybrid schedule (work from home up to 2–3 days per week, depending on project needs).

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and application developers to translate research into operational tools and solutions.
  • Design, develop, validate, and deploy data analysis and machine learning algorithms for program needs.
  • Work on problems in one or more areas: data-intensive applications, NLP, graph analysis, ML/statistical learning, visualization, data fusion, streaming, and database technologies.
  • Integrate components such as web-based UIs, access control, and indexing products into information and knowledge discovery systems.
  • Participate in software design, implementation, and performance analysis for scalable computing environments (including GPUs/FPGAs/HPC).
  • Share expertise with teammates, contribute to technical reviews, and help meet project deliverables.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum / Required

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q‑level security clearance (requires U.S. citizenship).

  • Fundamental knowledge in scientific data analysis, statistical learning, supervised/unsupervised learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, NLP, or big data technologies.
  • Familiarity with adversarial AI concepts (e.g., evasion, privacy, data poisoning).
  • Experience across the data science lifecycle: data exploration, feature engineering, modeling, visualization, and deployment.
  • Programming experience in C++, Python, or R on Linux/UNIX/Windows and experience integrating algorithms into larger applications.
  • Experience with ML frameworks/APIs such as scikit-learn, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Preferred / SES.2 Level

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliverables concurrently.
  • Experience solving abstract problems and producing reusable algorithms and software modules.
  • Advanced ML knowledge in one or more areas: transfer learning, distributed ML (data/model), MLOps, generative models, transformers, graph neural networks, uncertainty quantification, surrogate modeling, or low-shot techniques.

Pay Range

  • $121,830 - $185,544 Annually (overall range)
    • SES.1: $121,830 - $154,500 Annually
