Position Overview
Confidential Client (a software development consultancy working with insurance & banking clients) is hiring a Data Scientist to join their growing analytics team in Indiana. This is a full-time role with hybrid flexibility (occasional remote work possible). You’ll work on analytics, modeling, reporting, prototyping, and automation that shape product strategy and client outcomes.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare high-quality periodic reports and visualizations to present insurance and banking data to internal teams and stakeholders.
- Apply advanced analytical, statistical and mathematical methods to complex databases to inform product strategy.
- Develop prototypes and new analytical solutions in collaboration with engineers and product teams.
- Redesign and automate existing tools and workflows to improve efficiency and reproducibility.
- Communicate insights clearly through concise reports and the right choice of visualizations.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong analytical reasoning and accuracy with numerical data.
- Ability to quickly learn new concepts and independently investigate data problems.
- A relevant degree in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Economics, or a similar quantitative field (MSc is a plus but not required).
- Obsession with data: you enjoy exploring large datasets, testing assumptions, and iterating on alternative views.
- Interest in insurance and banking analytics or a willingness to learn the domains.
- Strong written and verbal communication in English.
- Positive attitude, energy, and persistence in delivering high-quality results.
Technical Skills (Required / Commonly Used)
- Python (data analysis libraries such as pandas, NumPy) or equivalent.
- Statistical analysis and applied mathematics.
- SQL for data extraction and transformation.
- Experience building reports, visualizations, and prototypes.
- Familiarity with basic machine learning techniques is helpful.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience in insurance or banking analytics.
- Experience with automation of analytics pipelines (ETL, scripting).
- Knowledge of visualization tools (e.g., matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly, or BI tools).
- Advanced degree (M.Sc. or higher) in a quantitative discipline.
