What You’ll Do

This is an entry-level, campus-based Data Scientist I role supporting CX Analytics for a Confidential Client in Portland, ME. You will apply data science, analytics, and basic ML to structured and unstructured data to generate actionable insights that improve customer and business outcomes. You will partner with BI analysts, data engineers, and business stakeholders to design analyses, support experiments, and communicate results.

  • Design and execute analytical solutions using statistics, optimization, simulation, and data-mining methods to deliver business value.
  • Integrate and wrangle large volumes of data from sources such as DB2, SQL Server, Teradata, and Web APIs.
  • Build data assets via validation, aggregation, and reconciliation to create modeling-ready datasets.
  • Construct and evaluate predictive models (scoring, clustering, forecasting) using machine learning methods.
  • Automate repeatable processes and support integration of solutions into business workflows.
  • Interpret results clearly and communicate findings and potential impact to managers and stakeholders.
  • Learn and apply new statistical methods, tools, and best practices as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business questions into analytic approaches.
  • Run experiments and analyses to identify trends, drivers, and improvement opportunities in the customer experience.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries to explore and join multiple tables/databases for analysis.
  • Create clear visualizations and summaries that drive decision-making.
  • Document methods, assumptions, and code; follow technical best practices and peer reviews.
  • Support ad-hoc requests while prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • Approximately 0–2 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Foundational programming experience (Jupyter notebooks, scripting) and familiarity with APIs/file I/O.
  • Solid understanding of statistical inference and regression; exposure to machine learning techniques.
  • Working knowledge of SQL with ability to write and troubleshoot complex queries.
  • Basic experience with data visualization tools and static visualizations.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to prioritize work across multiple tasks.

Preferred Qualifications & Characteristics

  • Familiarity with ETL concepts and experience integrating multiple data sources.
  • Exposure to DB2, Teradata, SQL Server, or similar enterprise data platforms.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and Python/R analytics libraries.
  • Entrepreneurial self-starter mentality, curious and results-oriented.
  • Ability to coach/mentor others and adapt quickly to change.

Compensation & Benefits

The confidential client provides a competitive salary range and a robust benefits package.

  • Base salary range: $60,500 – $123,400 (actual pay dependent on skills, experience, and location).
