What You’ll Do
This role blends applied data science with expressive data visualization to help business leaders and investment teams make faster, evidence-based decisions. Typical responsibilities include:
- Design, develop, and maintain interactive dashboards and visualizations that surface insights for stakeholders (investors, portfolio teams, operations).
- Translate ambiguous business questions into analytical approaches and implement solutions using clean, reproducible code.
- Build and validate statistical and machine learning models to support deal evaluation, portfolio monitoring, and performance tracking.
- Extract, transform, and load data from multiple sources; ensure data quality and lineage for analytics use.
- Collaborate with product, investment, and operations teams to scope analytics projects and present findings clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Produce documentation and reusable analytics components to accelerate team delivery.
Who You Are / Required Qualifications
We’re looking for a pragmatic data scientist with a proven eye for communicating data visually and the technical skills to deliver production-ready analytics.
- 3+ years of applied data science or analytics experience, including building dashboards and reports for business stakeholders.
- Strong programming skills in Python or R for data manipulation, modeling, and automation.
- Hands-on experience with visualization tools or libraries (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, D3, Plotly, or Matplotlib/Seaborn).
- Solid SQL skills for querying production databases and designing efficient data pipelines.
- Demonstrated ability to explain model results and visualization-driven insights to non-technical audiences.
- Strong attention to data quality, documentation, and reproducible workflows.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
These are not required but will set you apart:
- Experience in venture capital, private equity, startup analytics, or early-stage investing data.
- Production experience with cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Snowflake, BigQuery) and ETL tooling.
- Familiarity with A/B testing, causal inference, or time-series forecasting methods.
- Prior work building visualization libraries/components or embedding analytics into web apps.
Working Style & Location
- This position is based in Washington, DC (onsite or hybrid arrangements may be considered depending on the team's needs).
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
