Position Overview

Confidential Client (via Careertakes) is seeking an experienced Data Scientist / Data Analyst to design and implement robust data integration, ETL/ELT, and API-driven data products that convert fragmented agency data into clean, consumable outputs. This role supports federal and public-sector programs and focuses on modern data engineering, governance, and architecture to enable reliable analytics and reporting.

Pay Range: $110,000 - $130,000 (annually)


What You’ll Do

  • Translate fragmented, opaque data sources into clean, consumable API outputs and data products.
  • Map source systems to canonical data models and implement reusable data assets.
  • Lead the design and development of API-driven ETL/ELT pipelines and data orchestration.
  • Build and maintain data quality frameworks, validation rules, reconciliation processes, and lineage tracking.
  • Resolve data quality and semantic inconsistencies across authoritative sources.
  • Implement metadata management, data catalogs, and governance controls.
  • Work directly with business stakeholders, system owners, and technical teams to define requirements and translate business concepts into technical designs.
  • Integrate legacy systems (Oracle, DB2, mainframes) with modern cloud data stacks when required.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable federal cybersecurity and data protection standards (NIST, FISMA, FedRAMP) and role-based access controls.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related discipline — or equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • 4+ years of experience designing and implementing data integration, ETL/ELT, analytics, or data engineering solutions in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Python.
  • Experience with modern data orchestration and processing frameworks (Airflow, Spark, Databricks, Azure Data Factory, AWS Glue, or similar).
  • Experience implementing data governance, metadata management, lineage tracking, and data catalog solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience with data quality frameworks, reconciliation processes, and master/reference data management.
  • Solid data modeling and architecture skills (canonical models, normalization, star schema).
  • Experience authoring API data contracts and schemas (JSON Schema).
  • Experience supporting U.S. Federal Government clients or similarly regulated environments, working with complex legacy systems and authoritative data sources.
  • Familiarity with federal cybersecurity and compliance requirements (NIST, FISMA, FedRAMP).
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.

Preferred / Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with Oracle, IBM DB2, or mainframe integrations.
  • Prior work on HUBZone or small-business federal engagements.

Schedule

Work Location

  • Hybrid — primarily remote with some in-person requirements in Washington State (candidates must be able to travel to in-person sites as needed).
