What You’ll Do
The Confidential Client is seeking a hands-on Data Scientist to support mission-driven analytics in a hybrid Ashburn, VA role. You’ll apply statistical and machine learning techniques to large, transactional datasets and work within an Agile development team to deliver predictive models and actionable insights.
- Lead and perform exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, and training-set construction.
- Extract, clean, transform, and prepare data from multiple sources for modeling and reporting.
- Design, evaluate, and deploy predictive models using supervised and unsupervised methods.
- Compare and prototype modeling approaches across tools and languages to identify high-performing solutions.
- Develop visual analytics and reporting to communicate results to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with product owners, engineers, and subject-matter experts in an Agile environment.
What We’re Looking For (Minimum Qualifications)
To be considered, applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Two (2) or more years of professional experience in data science, advanced analytics, or machine learning.
- Proficiency in programming for data science (Python or R preferred; Scala or Java acceptable).
- Strong SQL skills for querying and preparing data.
- Experience developing and validating machine learning models and applying advanced analytics techniques.
- Familiarity with statistical and analytical tools (SAS, SPSS Modeler, R, WEKA, or equivalent).
- Experience with pattern recognition, automated classification, and data categorization techniques.
- Experience with entity resolution techniques (record linkage, deduplication, named-entity matching).
- Proven ability to communicate analytical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field (equivalent practical experience may be considered).
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in a quantitative discipline.
- Relevant certifications in data science, machine learning, or cloud platforms.
- Prior experience working on government or regulated mission programs.
- Familiarity with model deployment workflows and MLOps concepts.
Work Location & Schedule
- Hybrid position based in Ashburn, VA.
- Onsite presence expected 1–2 days per week, with additional onsite work as required by mission needs.
- Candidates should be able to commute to the Ashburn area as needed.
Clearance & Screening Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust position and a favorable suitability determination based on a CBP background investigation is required.
- Candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment screening.
