What You’ll Do

This entry-level Data Governance Engineer role supports a cross-functional enterprise governance and data literacy program. Working with experienced governance and data literacy team members, you will help scale steward onboarding, community engagement, governance enablement, and measurement.

• Coordinate data literacy events, workshops, office hours, community meetings, and learning campaigns — manage calendars, registrations, materials, attendance, and follow-up.
• Help grow the Data Stewardship community by supporting invitations, agendas, discussion topics, feedback collection, recaps, and approved collaboration channels.
• Support Data Steward onboarding: required learning, catalog/tool onboarding steps, approved access tracking, cataloging activities, office‑hours support, and follow-up actions.
• Assist with intake and triage of governance questions and data transfer documentation; route policy, privacy, access, data‑quality, and tool questions to subject-matter experts.
• Research and organize plain‑language content on governance topics: metadata, ownership, classifications, data exchange documentation/tracking, stewardship, data quality, and responsible data use.
• Create and maintain reusable communications and materials (FAQs, job aids, onboarding checklists, quick‑start guides, presentations, announcements, learning paths, and recordings).
• Under supervision, help verify approved metadata elements such as ownership, descriptions, and classifications.
• Maintain metric definitions, reporting trackers, and perform simple dashboard quality checks; prepare status updates, dashboard summaries, community recaps, and presentations.
• Coordinate with stewards, domain reps, technical teams, communications and learning partners, and governance SMEs while following client requirements for data protection, privacy, cybersecurity, and responsible AI.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Your Skills & Abilities

• Currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s or master’s program in MIS, Information Systems, Business/Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Basic understanding of how business processes, information systems, and data support organizational decisions.
• Interest in data governance, data literacy, stewardship, analytics enablement, or responsible AI.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow established processes and complete assignments on time.
• Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills; able to explain technical or process topics to non‑technical audiences.
• Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders.
• Curiosity, willingness to learn, and ability to receive and apply feedback.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office or comparable productivity and collaboration tools.
• Ability to work onsite at the client’s technical center in Warren, Michigan and participate in virtual and in‑person meetings as required.

What Can Give You a Competitive Advantage

• Coursework, projects, or internships involving data governance, stewardship, data quality, business process analysis, learning design, communications, or program coordination.
• Familiarity with SQL, spreadsheets, data visualization, survey tools, reporting, or dashboard development.
• Exposure to data catalogs, metadata, ownership, classification, data privacy, data contracts, or lifecycle concepts.
• Experience supporting steward onboarding, communities of practice, office hours, enablement programs, or adoption measurement.
• Exposure to tools such as Atlan, Immuta, Anomalo, Databricks, Power BI, Confluence, Degreed, Slack, or similar platforms.
• Strong documentation, analytical, and communication skills with both technical and business audiences.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $84,900 — $130,500 (base). The actual base salary offered will depend on experience and job‑relevant factors.
• Bonus potential: incentive pay based on company and individual performance.
