Role overview

Confidential client is hiring a Junior Data Engineer to support a data modernization program on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This is an entry-level, full-time role based in Atlanta, GA, ideal for recent graduates or early-career engineers with strong foundations in SQL, Python, and data fundamentals. You will work with senior engineers to build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines, implement Medallion (Bronze/Silver/Gold) layering in BigQuery, and learn industry best practices for data quality, observability, and governance.

Estimated compensation: $118,035 per year (estimated).


What You’ll Do

  • Assist in building and maintaining data ingestion pipelines into BigQuery using tools such as Fivetran and Python
  • Support development of Bronze / Silver / Gold data layers for analytics and reporting use cases
  • Contribute to data transformations using dbt (training provided if needed)
  • Help implement basic data validation and data quality checks; support monitoring and troubleshooting of pipelines
  • Contribute to version-controlled development workflows using GitHub
  • Assist in documenting data pipelines, transformations, and data models
  • Learn CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code concepts (exposure to Terraform)
  • Partner with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and support governance initiatives

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Strong academic foundation in:
    • SQL
    • Python (or a similar programming language)
    • Data structures and problem solving
  • Internship, coursework, or project experience related to data engineering, analytics, or cloud platforms
  • Willingness to learn modern data tools and cloud technologies
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Preferred qualifications

  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure
  • Familiarity with BigQuery or other relational/columnar databases
  • Familiarity with dbt or similar data transformation tools
  • Understanding of APIs and data ingestion concepts
  • Experience with Git/version control
  • Academic or personal projects that demonstrate building data pipelines or analytics workflows
