Role overview
This opportunity is for an entry-level Data Center Technical Operations Engineer I supporting a confidential client’s data center facilities in Andrews, TX. The role is a contract, fully onsite position (Monday–Friday) focused on hands-on operations, preventative and corrective maintenance, vendor coordination, and daily facility performance reporting. This position is ideal for a recent data center program graduate or a technician seeking foundational experience with critical infrastructure systems.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee and coordinate day-to-day operations of on-site technicians, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure work follows established procedures.
- Operate and maintain critical facility systems including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution, chillers, cooling towers, CRAC/CRAH units, and building monitoring systems.
- Perform corrective and preventative maintenance, and assist with incident response and escalation.
- Establish performance benchmarks, collect metrics, and prepare operational reports.
- Work with IT and business teams to coordinate capacity, projects, and safety improvements.
- Manage asset and inventory records and assist with recruiting/onboarding of operations staff.
- Support facility improvement projects and may assist in build-outs for new spaces.
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or technical credential (military, trade school) in engineering, facilities, or related discipline — or equivalent experience.
- 0–2 years relevant work experience; entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, organizational ability, and basic leadership skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, safety-conscious environment.
- Willingness to work fully onsite in Andrews, TX (see Location & logistics).
Preferred qualifications
- Any prior experience with data center engineering or data center management (0–2 years).
- Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
- Familiarity with low-voltage cabling (copper/fiber) and basic network layout.
- Hands-on experience with UPS, generators, chillers, or power distribution equipment.
Location & logistics
- Location: Onsite in Andrews, TX. Candidates must be willing to live in or relocate to the Andrews/Wink area or use a weekly per diem arrangement for lodging as needed. This is an onsite, Monday–Friday schedule with weekends off.
- Employment type: Contract (onsite).
Compensation & benefits
- Pay range: $25.00 – $30.00 per hour. Actual pay offered will depend on qualifications, experience, and other job-related factors.
