Role overview

This Data Center Engineer role supports a confidential client’s campus and colocated data center environment. The position performs journey-level engineering tasks to design, operate, and maintain electrical power, backup generation, and mechanical cooling systems that keep critical IT infrastructure running reliably. The role participates in strategic planning, provides electrical engineering support for hardware teams and hosted customers, and participates in a 24x7 on-call rotation.


What you’ll do

  • Design, manage, and maintain electrical and mechanical cooling equipment across CCIT data centers.
  • Detect and troubleshoot cooling and power system problems; work with vendors to coordinate repairs and warranty work.
  • Receive, configure, monitor and maintain power generation and delivery systems, including UPS and generator systems.
  • Provide electrical engineering support to hardware engineers and hosted/co-location customers to ensure service continuity.
  • Take part in strategic planning for data center power, cooling and monitoring systems and implement improvements.
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation and respond rapidly to incidents and outages.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or engineering technology (or equivalent military technical training/certifications with relevant experience).
  • Entry-level engineering or architectural work experience with demonstrated ability to apply engineering concepts and procedures.
  • Ability to perform journey-level engineering tasks in the specialties above.

Preferred / valuable skills

  • Experience with data center power delivery, UPS, and generator systems.
  • Familiarity with mechanical cooling systems and HVAC for critical facilities.
  • Strong troubleshooting, vendor coordination, and technical communication skills.
  • Comfortable with on-call duties and emergency response procedures.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional technical teams and external customers.

Physical requirements & working conditions

  • Prolonged standing, sitting, walking and physical positioning (stoop, kneel, crawl) as required to perform maintenance.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment (some tasks may involve up to 50 lbs).
  • Work regularly in environments with variable temperature, noise, and potential electrical/mechanical hazards.
  • Essential personnel designation: required to respond during emergency closures or modified operations.

Employment details & compensation

  • Employment type: Full-time (Time-Limited / Permanent classification as listed by the client).
  • Work arrangement: Telecommute/remote-eligible (local presence in Anderson, SC preferred for certain duties and on-site responses).
  • Standard schedule: 37.5 hours per week; includes participation in on-call rotation.
  • Estimated salary (source listing): $54,040 per year (estimated). Final pay will depend on experience, qualifications, and the client’s compensation guidelines.
