Responsibilities
The Confidential Client’s Transportation / Data team is hiring a Data Analyst focused on routing and fleet scheduling. This role combines system administration, data engineering, analytics, and close operational partnership to improve routing efficiency and fleet performance across a large urban transportation program.
You will:
- Maintain and configure routing and telematics systems (examples: Zum, Geotab) to meet changing business needs.
- Act as primary liaison with vendors to ensure software versions, training, and feature use meet operational requirements.
- Serve as the technical bridge between routing staff, IT teams, and transportation contractors.
- Build and run queries to extract, transform, and sync routing and student data from the routing system and the district student information system.
- Implement and maintain data auditing and validation processes to guarantee data integrity across systems.
- Create and maintain fleet schedules that balance service quality and operational efficiency.
- Assist with route optimization and troubleshoot scheduling exceptions and performance issues.
- Translate operational needs into technical specifications for reports, dashboards, and automation.
- Develop reports and dashboards for stakeholders including departmental leadership and city-level offices.
- Perform in-depth analyses of routing data to identify efficiency opportunities and measure improvements.
- Train departmental staff on using routing data and tools to inform operational decisions.
- Participate in strategy and process development for transportation operations.
Qualifications — Required
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a quantitative field (e.g., Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science) or equivalent experience.
- 1+ year experience in data management, analytics, or technology systems maintenance.
- Advanced analytical skills and demonstrated proficiency in SQL and either Python or R.
- Strong spreadsheet skills (Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets).
- Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and ETL/data-sync practices.
- Experience creating project plans, collecting stakeholder input, and communicating deliverables and timelines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to explain technical topics to non-technical audiences.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
