What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is hiring a Data Analyst II (Business Analyst focus) to connect partner and user needs to data, analytics, and technical solutions. You will translate stakeholder questions into clear data definitions and analytic requirements, investigate data quality, and help ensure dashboards and reports deliver meaningful insights.
- Translate broad or ambiguous partner requests into clear questions, data definitions, requirements, and technical specs.
- Map source data to reporting concepts and document data transformations and business rules.
- Investigate and resolve data quality issues; recommend fixes and workarounds.
- Write, review, and debug SQL queries for analysis and reporting in a cloud data warehouse environment (e.g., Snowflake).
- Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and product partners to scope analytic work and guide deliverables from discovery to production.
- Mock up reports and dashboards; collaborate in design and user feedback cycles (Figma, Apache Superset or similar).
- Validate analytic outputs using R or Python for data processing and validation.
- Use Git and GitHub for version control and collaborative development.
- Adopt new tools and AI-assisted technologies to improve efficiency and analytical quality.
- Prioritize multiple responsibilities and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, Information Systems, Public Policy, Education, or a related field — or equivalent relevant experience.
- At least one year of professional experience working independently with data, analytics, technical requirements, or data products.
- Proficiency with SQL in a cloud data warehouse (experience with Snowflake is preferred).
- Experience investigating complex data sources and assessing data quality.
- Working knowledge of a statistical programming language (R or Python).
- Familiarity with business intelligence or reporting tools and the mockup/design phase.
- Experience using Git/GitHub for version control.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Apache Superset and Figma.
- Familiarity with K–12 education data, state/district reporting, or standards such as Ed-Fi.
- Prior experience in roles that blend business analysis and data analytics (Business Analyst, BI Analyst, BI Developer, Data Analyst, or Data Scientist).
- Interest in working at the intersection of technical analytics and user-centered product design.
Skills & Tools
- Strong SQL skills (complex query construction, debugging, cloud warehousing).
- R or Python for data investigation and validation.
- BI/visualization tooling (Apache Superset preferred; experience with Tableau, Looker, or similar is relevant).
- Version control with Git/GitHub.
- Clear written and verbal communication across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong organization and time-management skills.
Location & Work Arrangement
This position is based on-site in Madison, WI. Remote work may be considered for candidates with substantial relevant experience; final work arrangement will be determined by the Confidential Client.
