Role Overview

Confidential Client is seeking an Entry‑Level Cytogenetic Technologist Trainee to join their laboratory team in Santa Fe, NM. This is an entry-level trainee position with full training provided — ideal for new graduates. The role includes hands-on laboratory training in cytogenetic techniques (tissue culture, karyotyping, FISH) and opportunities to develop into a fully qualified technologist.


What You’ll Do

  • Perform routine cytogenetic procedures including tissue culture, harvesting, slide preparation and banding
  • Run automated karyotyping workflows and prepare reagents and controls
  • Process, probe, and scope FISH specimens and support FISH workflows
  • Assess specimen acceptability according to established criteria
  • Operate, monitor and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation
  • Perform preventive maintenance and document quality control procedures
  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls as directed
  • Report accurate and timely test results to support patient care
  • Maintain inventory and replenish bench supplies as needed
  • Assist with specimen processing and other bench tasks as required
  • Follow safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment

Schedule & Training

  • Work schedules: Sunday–Thursday 8:00 AM–5:00 PM and/or Tuesday–Saturday 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
  • Training schedule (initial): Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (1st shift)
  • New grads welcome — full training provided
  • This role includes a $1,000 sign-on bonus

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a chemical or biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology (from an accredited institution)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a clinical laboratory or prior experience with the confidential client
  • ASCP Cytogenetics or AMT certification (or in progress)
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems and strong computer skills

  • Strong attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Able to pass a standardized color‑vision test
  • Commitment to laboratory safety and quality practices

Compensation & Benefits

  • Estimated base pay: $69,589 per year (estimated)
  • $1,000 sign-on bonus
  • Employees regularly scheduled 20+ hours/week are eligible for benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, STD/LTD, 401(k), paid time off (PTO) or flexible time off (FTO), tuition reimbursement and employee stock purchase plan — benefit eligibility varies by schedule and employment type.

Location
