Position overview
Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Cytogenetic Technologist Trainee to join their laboratory team in La Cienga, NM. This is a training-focused role with full training provided, opportunities for hands-on experience in cytogenetics workflows (including tissue culture, karyotyping and FISH), and a $1,000 sign-on bonus. What You’ll Do
- Perform routine cytogenetics procedures including tissue culture, harvesting, slide preparation, banding, and automated karyotyping.
- Process and analyze FISH specimens (probing and scoping) under supervision.
- Prepare reagents and assist with validation and testing of new reagents or controls.
- Evaluate specimen acceptability according to established criteria.
- Operate, monitor and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation; perform preventive maintenance and routine quality control.
- Report accurate, timely test results in accordance with SOPs and lab policies.
- Maintain bench supplies and assist with specimen processing as needed.
- Follow lab safety practices and wear required personal protective equipment.
Training, Schedule & Compensation
- Training schedule (initial): Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
- Work schedule (after training): Sunday–Thursday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM and/or Tuesday–Saturday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
- This role includes a $1,000 sign-on bonus.
- Estimated annual compensation (as listed): $91,342 per year (estimated).
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a clinical laboratory (preferred).
- ASCP Cytogenetics certification or AMT certification (preferred).
- Previous experience or internship in cytogenetics or related laboratory testing.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems and basic computer skills.
Required Skills & Standards
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to pass a standardized color vision test.
- Willingness to follow SOPs, safety protocols, and quality documentation procedures.
