What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking a Cybersecurity Software Engineer (12-month contract, hybrid) to design, implement, and maintain security controls across software products and development processes. You will work closely with product and engineering teams to embed secure development practices, lead threat assessments, and support incident response and remediation.

  • Design and implement security controls, automation, and tools that integrate into the SDLC
  • Perform threat modeling, code reviews, vulnerability assessments, and penetration test coordination
  • Run and interpret static code analysis, software composition analysis, and SCAP scans
  • Support security incident investigations and remediation efforts
  • Collaborate across engineering, product, and operations to drive secure design decisions
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers on secure development practices
  • Contribute to employee cybersecurity training and security documentation

What We’re Looking For (Required)

  • 3+ years of experience in cybersecurity or related software engineering roles
  • Experience mapping and correlating standards to CRA (e.g., IEC 62443, NIST Secure SD Framework, NIST 800-53, ISO 27001, ISO 21434, CMMC, RMF)
  • Hands-on experience with threat modeling, vulnerability analysis, security automation, and incident response
  • Practical experience with static code analysis, software composition analysis (SCA), SCAP scans, and/or coordinating penetration testing
  • Familiarity with the Cybersecurity Resiliency Act (CRA)
  • Strong programming experience in compiled or systems languages such as C, C++ or C# (or similar)
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with source control and modern development workflows
  • BS/BA/MS in Computer Science, Computer Systems Engineering, or equivalent experience ( Electrical/Computer Engineering with strong software experience may be acceptable)

Nice to Have

  • Embedded systems, hardware control, or OS-level programming experience
  • Previous leadership on engineering security initiatives or owning secure-by-design efforts

Compensation & Employment Type

  • Employment type: Contract (12-month contract; possibility to convert to permanent)
  • Base pay range: $70.00/hr – $88.50/hr (rate will be based on skills and experience)
  • Location: North Reading, MA — hybrid work model
