What You’ll Do

Under general supervision, the Customer Development Representative will market the Confidential Client brand to grow business with established customers and manage the lifecycle of awarded loads. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Build and grow customer relationships by monitoring and promptly responding to order requests to increase freight volume.
  • Increase customer satisfaction through regular touchpoints with clients and internal teams to maximize opportunities.
  • Partner with internal marketing teams to execute, analyze, and refine targeted campaign efforts.
  • Negotiate spot pricing to secure incremental business.
  • Monitor customer freight needs by understanding daily business segment activities and optimizing asset utilization.
  • Communicate proactively—respond to information requests, check load status, and resolve issues to minimize service failures.
  • Enter and manage customer orders in the order management system (digital accept, auto-accept, manual entry) to execute loads.
  • Coordinate with Credit and Accounts Receivable teams to establish lines of credit, set returning-customer limits, and support collections.
  • Review margins and operating revenue for assigned customers and manage marketing feedback data to keep customer profiles current.
  • Educate customers on available technology and tools and encourage adoption to improve operational efficiency.
  • Develop and monitor a book of business; solicit leads and convert opportunities to maximize revenue.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED plus 1–2 years of sales, transportation, account/client management, or related experience (or military equivalent) OR a bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communication, Public Relations, Business Administration, Supply Chain, Transportation Logistics, or a related field.
  • Practical knowledge of standard transportation/ logistics terminology and service offerings.
  • Experience using order management or CRM tools to capture and manage customer orders.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and work with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas across channels.
  • Self-starter who can work with minimal direction and maintain composure during difficult conversations.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills focused on customer outcomes.
  • Basic knowledge of North American geography (states, major cities, time zones).
  • Experience analyzing customer activity and developing transactional pricing strategies.
  • Proven ability to set and track challenging goals aligned with business objectives.
  • Prior internship or related early-career experience preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation will be determined based on skills, education, experience, location, and other job-related factors. This role may be eligible for annual bonus or incentive plans tied to profitability or volume metrics.
