Role Overview
This Customer Care Specialist role supports a Confidential Client's Michigan Works! service center in Benton Harbor, MI. You will be the first line of contact for visitors and callers — delivering friendly, professional customer service while helping jobseekers access workforce programs, unemployment insurance navigation, and local community resources. This is a full-time, in-person role that supports workforce development in the region.
What You’ll Do
- Greet and assist customers and visitors at the Michigan Works! One-Stop center in Benton Harbor, MI.
- Explain available Michigan Works! programs and services and refer customers to appropriate resources.
- Educate visitors about the Unemployment Insurance process and help them navigate Michigan Talent Connect accounts.
- Triage customer needs and connect jobseekers to training, on‑the‑job opportunities, and employer partnerships.
- Provide technology assistance (internet access, creating email accounts, virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom).
- Maintain confidentiality and protect customers’ personal information.
- Perform outreach and data entry using the center’s databases to follow up with visitors.
- Provide administrative and clerical support to the talent team as workload allows.
- Help open and close the service center and ensure policies, code of conduct, and procedures are followed.
- Suggest improvements to promote services and increase customer satisfaction.
- Participate in ongoing professional training and contribute to continuous quality improvement.
- Collaborate across teams to align services and resources toward shared outcomes.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the center’s mission.
Qualifications
Minimum requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in business, human services, workforce development, or a related field.
- Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
- Passion for serving the community and helping jobseekers.
- Familiarity with local community resources and embedded partner services.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and maintain confidentiality.
- Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and virtual meeting platforms.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and adapting to change.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
- Two years of professional experience in business, social services, workforce development, or a related field.
- Spanish bilingual ability is a plus.
Physical & Travel Requirements
- Able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
- Willing and able to travel approximately 30% of the time between Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren counties.
