Curriculum and Teaching Assistant (Entry Level Nuclear Engineer & Physicist)
The Curriculum and Teaching Assistant supports the Reactor Engineering School by assisting in curriculum development, student and instructor support, and operational tasks such as grading and AV setup. What You’ll Do
This entry-level role supports the Reactor Engineering School (RES) by assisting with curriculum development, instructor and student support, and operations that enable high-quality training in reactor engineering.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of curriculum resources for senior undergraduate and first-year graduate-level engineering courses (mechanical, nuclear, electrical).
- Develop and review course materials, perform peer reviews, and help test computer models used in instruction.
- Provide grading support for homework and exams and deliver timely feedback to students.
- Support instructors and students during in-person and remote sessions, including setup and troubleshooting of Audio-Visual (AV) equipment and remote learning tools.
- Help maintain classroom and lab materials, coordinate with instructors on course logistics, and track curriculum changes.
- Participate in continuous learning by taking RES courses and pursuing professional/academic development as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in an accredited engineering or science discipline (mechanical, nuclear, electrical, physics, or related). A Master’s degree is also acceptable.
- Solid foundational coursework in one or more of the above engineering or science areas.
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Ability to successfully complete a Federal background investigation and meet eligibility for access to classified matter.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test in accordance with federal contractor requirements (including testing for marijuana).
Preferred Skills
- Strong academic background in mechanical, nuclear, and/or electrical engineering.
- Experience or coursework in curriculum development, pedagogical methods, or instructional support.
- Programming experience and familiarity with engineering modeling tools used in nuclear program environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable with AV and remote-learning technologies; able to troubleshoot basic setups.
- Interest in continued education (e.g., pursuing a Master’s degree or additional RES-affiliated training).

- Pay range: $63,900 - $97,800 per year (actual salary will depend on experience and qualifications).

- This position is a full-time role and is located in West Mifflin, PA.
