What You’ll Do

• Own and build the testing infrastructure and test coverage for two active C++ systems projects.
• Contribute C++ feature development with a systems-level focus (OS APIs, processes, file systems, services).
• Design and implement reliable, maintainable automated tests (Google Test, Catch2, CTest or equivalent).
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineers to define and enforce endpoint behavior and security controls.
• Document test strategies, perform code reviews, and help improve CI pipelines and developer workflows.
• Adapt and incorporate AI-assisted tools into engineering workflows where appropriate.

About You

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
• 1–3 years of professional C++ experience.
• Strong C++ fundamentals: memory management, RAII, STL, smart pointers.
• Familiarity with modern build systems (CMake preferred).
• Hands-on experience writing or maintaining automated tests in C++ (Google Test, Catch2, CTest, or equivalent).
• Interest in systems-level software—curiosity about what runs “beneath the app.”
• Comfortable working in areas with ambiguity and asking questions to discover answers.
• Fast learner who ramps on new systems, APIs, and code through documentation, reading, and mentorship.
• Comfortable adapting workflows to incorporate AI tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Any Windows systems programming exposure (Windows APIs, WINAPI, registry access, process management).
• Experience with CMake + vcpkg build environments.
• Familiarity with test frameworks supporting mocking/dependency injection (Google Mock, etc.).
• Exposure to cross‑platform C++ (Windows + macOS or Linux).
• Background in or strong interest in security software (endpoint protection, system hardening).
• Experience with structured CI test pipelines and ctest.

Location & Work Model

• This role is open to candidates located in California and is listed as hybrid/telecommute. The confidential client is flexible on remote work for applicants who reside in the USA and in the following states: CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IL, KS, MA, MD, ME, NJ, NC, NY, OR, TN, TX, VA, WA.
• Physical office options exist in Austin, TX and Tampa, FL for those who prefer a hybrid setup.
• Onsite interviews may be required.
• This position is NOT eligible for visa sponsorship.
• Due to operational policies, the confidential client cannot hire candidates who live within the city limits of Chicago; applicants outside that city or willing to self-relocate will be considered.

Compensation & Benefits

• California base salary hiring range: $85,000 to $110,000 per year.
• Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k) plan; life insurance; and unlimited PTO.
• Exact starting pay depends on location, experience, and job-related factors.
