Counselor - IOP
The Counselor - IOP provides supervised treatment and support to clients recovering from addictions and mental health disorders, conducting assessments, treatment planning, and counseling sessions under clinical supervision. What You’ll Do
This supervised clinical role supports clients in recovery from substance use and co-occurring behavioral health disorders within an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Conduct client assessments under supervision to gather history, clinical presentation, risk factors, and ongoing treatment needs
- Participate in treatment planning and progress reviews with clinical supervisors
- Lead assigned group counseling and facilitate individual or family sessions using evidence-supported modalities
- Provide client and family education on substance use and psychiatric issues
- Complete timely, clear documentation of care, incidents, and treatment notes (co-signed by supervising clinician as required)
- Deliver crisis intervention and seek appropriate consultation when needed
- Plan and document aftercare and discharge-related activities
- Serve as a liaison with insurance carriers and support case management tasks to ensure coordinated, individualized care
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in social or mental health services or a closely related field required
- No prior professional work experience required — this is an entry-level clinical role intended for clinicians working under supervision
- Must be able to work under weekly clinical supervision in alignment with state licensing/training standards
- Strong communication skills and ability to facilitate groups
- Comfortable completing clinical documentation and using electronic health records
Licenses & Certifications
- Eligible for entry-level licensure or certification in the state where you will practice (role allows for supervised practice where state permits)
- CPR and de-escalation certification required (training available upon hire)
- First aid certification may be required depending on state or facility
Work Location & Schedule
- This position is onsite in Saint Joseph, MO and is not remote
- Employment type: Full-time
- Individual contributor role (no supervisory responsibilities)
Compensation & Benefits
- Estimated salary: $58,007 per year (estimated)
