Controls Engineer
The Controls Engineer at Confidential Client is responsible for programming and maintaining automation and control systems in a cutting-edge lithium-ion battery manufacturing plant. This role involves troubleshooting, continuous process improvement, and integration of various automated systems to ensure high productivity and yield in a highly automated environment. The position requires collaboration with internal teams and external vendors, with some on-call support duties, focusing on advanced PLC programming and manufacturing process technologies.

What You’ll Do
This Controls Engineer will join a manufacturing engineering team supporting high-volume, automated production. You will help troubleshoot equipment and facility issues, drive continuous improvement, analyze production results, and implement manufacturing methods to improve yield and productivity. The role includes collaboration with internal stakeholders and external vendors to resolve urgent, complex production problems and may require some on-call support.
Key Responsibilities
- Program, test, commission, and troubleshoot automation and controls systems from multiple vendors.
- Develop, monitor, and modify PLC logic for design, simulation, start-up, and production troubleshooting.
- Work with Mitsubishi Q Series PLCs and related networking technologies such as CC-Link and SSCNET III.
- Implement motion control solutions involving servo motors and robots.
- Integrate peripheral systems including barcode/RFID readers, vision systems, ultrasonic welding, weigh scales, gas sampling, and robotic systems.
- Support continuous improvement projects to increase yield, uptime, and safety.
- Document controls changes, maintain code repositories, and hand off procedures to maintenance and operations.
- Provide occasional on-call support for production-critical issues.
Qualifications & Competencies
- Associate degree required in Automation, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field; Bachelor of Science preferred.
- 0–3 years of industrial controls experience. Internships, co-ops, or entry-level roles in manufacturing or automotive engineering are highly relevant.
- Exposure to PLC programming and controls design; experience with Mitsubishi PLCs is a plus.
- Familiarity with CC-Link, SSCNET III, motion control, and basic robotics preferred.
- Exposure to electrical systems design, automation hardware, and manufacturing assembly equipment.
- Proactive, resourceful, and able to communicate effectively across teams.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented, safety-first manufacturing environment.
- Bilingual Korean/English preferred but not required.
- Exposure or coursework in battery systems/processes is a plus but not required.

- This is a full-time role based in Warren, OH. Some on-call support is required.
